Do I need to bring my high school papers to the new school board when i am moving?

I am moving from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to New York City and im going into gr.11 next year. Am i supposed to bring all my high school report cards and etc. when i enroll into a NYC high school? I was thinking that "yes" because we are moving internationally and i dont think theyd be able to obtain my files any other way.|||It wouldn't be a bad idea, but generally your new school will contact your old school, and your old school will fax the most important records and mail the rest.|||This is one of the jobs that I do at our high school. It doesn't matter if you are moving internationally or across town, these same tips apply.

Ask your old school for a copy of your transcript, this will have every class you have taken and grades. Ask your counselor at your old school for a list explaining your classes taken. Your classes you took before may not be easy to match up with required classes at the new school, this explanation will help with that. Your counselor is used to these requests.

Bring your shot record with you, this will also help.

Pay all fines and fees owed at your old high school, some schools won't send your file unless these are paid.

Bring the full name, mailing address, phone number and fax number of your old school.

Enroll early at your new school, don't wait until everyone else is enrolling and the counselor is overwhelmed with students and parents. Your classes are probably going to take longer to schedule.

Fill out your registration form completely, don't leave anything out and make sure your parent signs it.

Relax. Everything will work out and let your new school worry about obtaining your files, they will get them it just will take a while longer. It's what we get paid to do.

Take care
